 hers a simple part one of a toutorial


 step 1.

using your refrences wheter they be photo or doll or human  decide on the pose and direction your charactor is facing .

i usually do this on a transperent layer  with a pale  blue or green so i cant tell later which layer it is 

step 2.

using a new layer work out where the clothing  and accesories will be this layer can be the hardest    i redrew the cage skirt at leat 20 times   to get the shape  right  .
i normally do go to into the details just yet  your more trying to get the overall shape and flow down . at this stage i had otto looking backwards  and victorias hair in its usual beehive .

step 3..
rought out a quick background . and zoom ito the details of the dress and apparatus   use this layer to refine the details in the clothing  . i also change the direction otto was facing and added victorias  expression . the draw style is still verry loose and sketchy  dont worry this layer like the others befor it is a sacrifical layer and wont be visible in the finished pic .

step 4
 quickly rough in the  background colour it helps but not nessasary 

step 5 
with the details and shapes worked out . start a new layer and name it ,line work .  keeping your strokes even and using a brush thats tight and sharp edged  start  lining the pic  . when all the outlines are complete start adding the black shadows giving the image weight 

step 6  
 leaving only the line art visible start a new layer behind it and start dropping in the flat colours 

step 7 
bring up the flat background colour and check the colours work .  its at this stage i start a new layer and start the outlining of the background details  usually in a grey   or paler colour to the forground outlining .
